Sinah
South-western tip with Hayling Golf Club, Sinah Common, the Ferry Boat Inn, and wild, windswept views across the harbour entrance.
Sinah occupies the south-western tip of Hayling Island, a distinctive area characterised by Sinah Common, Hayling Golf Club, and the exposed coastline facing the entrance to Langstone Harbour. The golf course is one of the oldest on the south coast and its links-style layout, shaped by wind and salt spray, gives the area an open, windswept character. Sinah Common is an area of open grassland and scrub that provides public access and supports wildlife. The views from the Sinah area are expansive, looking west across the harbour entrance to Eastney and Southsea, and south across the Solent. The area has a wild, exposed feel, particularly in winter when the wind comes off the sea unobstructed. Sinah Lane provides access to this part of the island, and a small number of residential properties are scattered around the edges of the common and the golf course. The Ferry Boat Inn, situated near the old ferry crossing point to Eastney, is a landmark pub with an enviable waterside position. The Sinah area has a character entirely different from the rest of Hayling, defined by openness, wind, and water.
