West Town

Western residential area with harbour views across to Portsmouth, established housing, the Kench tidal inlet, and a quiet, community character.

West Town lies on the western side of southern Hayling Island, facing Langstone Harbour. The area is residential, with a mix of housing types including some of the more desirable properties on the island, particularly those with views across the harbour towards Portsea Island and Portsmouth. West Town has a quieter, more established character than the busier seafront area to the east. The western shore provides excellent views across Langstone Harbour, and at low tide the mudflats are alive with wading birds. The Kench, a small tidal inlet, is a local landmark and provides a sheltered spot near the shore. West Lane runs through the area and connects to the network of residential streets that have developed over the decades. The area has a strong sense of community, with residents who value the harbour views and the relative seclusion of this side of the island. The Maypole pub, one of the best-known pubs on the island, is accessible from West Town and serves as a social anchor for this part of Hayling.
