Havant Road
Street guide, Hayling Island
Havant Road is the main spine road of Hayling Island, carrying the A3023 from the bridge at Langstone southward through North Hayling and into the central part of the island. This is the only road on or off the island, and every vehicle crossing the bridge uses it. The road runs straight for much of its length, passing through the flat, low-lying landscape that characterises the island's interior. Traffic congestion on Havant Road, particularly during summer weekends and holiday periods, is one of the enduring issues of island life. The road is lined with a mix of residential properties, farms, and scattered commercial premises. North of Stoke, the character is rural; further south, development becomes more suburban as the road approaches the Mengham area. Havant Road is the lifeline of the island, carrying every delivery, every emergency vehicle, and every commuter to and from the mainland.
