Station Road

Street guide, Hayling Island

Station Road takes its name from the former Hayling Island railway station, which stood near the western end of the road until the line closed in 1963. The railway, which ran from Havant across the bridge to the island, was a key part of the island's connection to the mainland for nearly a century. Today, Station Road is a residential street connecting the western part of the island to the main road network. The former railway route has been converted into the Hayling Billy Trail, and the trail crosses near Station Road. The street has a residential character, with a mix of housing types reflecting different periods of twentieth-century development. Station Road is a reminder of the island's railway era, when the line brought holidaymakers and day-trippers from London, Portsmouth, and beyond.
