Rails Lane

Street guide, Hayling Island

Rails Lane is a residential road in the southern part of Hayling Island, running through the area between Mengham and the seafront. The road takes its name from the former railway that served the island until 1963, and the route of the old line passes nearby. Housing along Rails Lane is a mix of bungalows and houses, typical of the mid-twentieth-century development that characterises much of the island's residential areas. The street is quiet and residential, with local traffic only. Rails Lane connects to the surrounding residential streets and is within walking distance of both the Mengham Road shops and the beach. The former railway route, now the Hayling Billy Trail, is accessible from the area and provides a walking and cycling path through the island.
