Sandy Point Road
Street guide, Hayling Island
Sandy Point Road runs through the Eastoke area towards Sandy Point at the south-eastern tip of Hayling Island. The road provides access to the nature reserve at Sandy Point, where a sand and shingle spit extends into the entrance of Chichester Harbour. The nature reserve is managed by Hampshire County Council and supports rare plants, nesting terns, and ringed plovers. Access to Sandy Point itself is restricted during the breeding season to protect the wildlife. The road passes through the Eastoke residential area, with bungalows and chalets on either side. Sandy Point Road is the route to one of the most distinctive natural features of Hayling Island, and the views from the point, looking across the harbour entrance towards East Head and West Wittering, are among the finest on the island.
